How we check our listings
Every date, price and opening day in this guide comes from a source that can be shown. This page explains how the facts are collected and checked, how prices are read, how the guide is funded and how to report a mistake.
Where the facts come from
Sources are used in this order of preference:
- the website of the organiser or operator;
- the tourist office or the local authority;
- dated regional or national press.
Event listing sites and blogs can point to an event, but they are never used alone for a date. Each fact is recorded with the address of the page, the day it was consulted and a short quotation taken word for word from that page. A fact without its quotation is not used.
Two independent readings
The critical facts of a listing are collected twice, by two separate readers: whether the event exists, the dates of the next edition, its status, the town and the official website, and for an experience, the operators and their prices. The second reader works without seeing the answers of the first. A script then compares the two readings and reloads every quoted page to find each quotation again.
Any disagreement goes to an arbitration step that reads the sources once more and writes down its reason. A fact the two readings do not agree on is not published as certain. Before a listing goes online, each figure and date in its text is checked once more against these verified facts, separately from the writing.
Dates
- No date is worked out from earlier years. When the organiser has not announced the next edition, the listing says “dates to be confirmed” and recalls the dates of the last edition, marked as ended.
- A cancelled edition stays on its listing, with its status.
- Each listing shows the day its facts were last checked (“Facts checked on”). This date is separate from the date the page was last edited: a page can be edited for its wording, and the checked date only changes when the sources are read again.
- When an edition is over, the listing is checked again for the next dates.
- Sources are listed at the bottom of each listing, with the date they were consulted.
Prices
A price in this guide is the adult rate of the cheapest public offer that includes the main activity: the tasting at a cellar, the full walk for a food tour.
- The rate is read on the page of the offer itself, never taken from the “from” price of a list page, which is sometimes a child rate.
- When a page gives one price per person, it counts as the adult rate. When the operator also publishes a child rate, the price kept is the one for adults.
- An offer that combines food with a visit of another kind, such as a monument, is not used as the entry price.
- When several operators run the same experience, the listing shows a range from the lowest to the highest entry price. A price that changes with the session is shown as a range too.
- For a winery, two prices are given when they exist: the cheapest tasting, and the cheapest guided tour with a tasting.
- Prices stay in the currency the operator publishes, with the date they were checked. The languages of a tour are listed only when the operator publishes them.
Affiliate links
The guide may earn money through affiliate links. Some pages can carry links to accommodation booking sites or to ticket sellers for tours and tastings; if you book through one of them, the guide may receive a commission, at no extra cost to you. A note says so on the page, before the first of these links.
Which festivals and experiences appear, and what their listings say, is decided on the selection criterion described on the About page, before any link is added. A listing without a partner offer simply has no booking button. No affiliate link points to a cooking class.
Use of AI
The texts in this guide are written with the help of AI tools. They are drafted from the verified facts only, with their quotations and sources, and each figure and date is then checked against those facts before the listing goes online, as described above. AI does not choose which festivals and experiences appear: the selection criterion on the About page does.
Corrections
If a date, a price or any other fact is wrong or out of date, write through the Contact page with the address of the listing and, if possible, the official page that shows the right information. The fact is checked against that source before the listing changes, and its verification date moves with it.
