Street food

Street food festivals, weekly food markets and guided food tours are the easiest way to eat widely on a short trip: small plates, many cooks, one place.

Weekly markets fit any city break. Smorgasburg sets up in New York every weekend between April and October, and Street Food Thursday turns Markthalle Neun in Berlin into an evening market each week, with free entry. Festivals need a fixed date in the diary: Pizza Village near Naples is a summer festival built around Neapolitan pizza, and the Foodies Festival tours British cities between May and August. Food tours in Tokyo, Mexico City or Singapore add a guide who explains what you are eating and where to come back on your own. Bring some cash, wear comfortable shoes and share plates to taste more.
