Map of Illinois

Illinois is a state of the American Midwest, stretching from Lake Michigan in the north-east to the meeting of the Mississippi and Ohio rivers in the south. Its largest city by far is Chicago, on the lakeshore, and that is where the culinary experiences in this guide are.

Three operators run guided food tours in Chicago: Chicago Food & City Tours, Secret Food Tours and Sidewalk Food Tours. Their entry tours cost 79.99 to 99 dollars per adult and last 3 to 3.5 hours, in the Loop, River North and, with Chicago Food & City Tours, Pilsen.

Getting there

Chicago has two airports, O’Hare and Midway, both linked to downtown by the city’s “L” trains. Long-distance and regional Amtrak trains arrive at Chicago Union Station, in the West Loop. Downtown, the tours are on foot: the Loop and River North are a few minutes’ walk apart, across the Chicago River.
