How the visit runs

What to taste

  • Premier Cru and Grand Cru flights

L’Ecole Nº 41’s current releases, 25 or 40 dollars, in a historic classroom or on the deck.

  • Woodward’s finest

What Woodward Canyon promises in its new tasting flight, 25 dollars.

  • Latest releases

Six wines in Gramercy’s Tasting Room flight. The 50 dollar Elevated Experience adds reserve and library wines.

  • The finest wines with bites

Served in Dunham’s Founders Room after a cellar and production tour, 75 dollars, groups of 4 to 8.

On Walla Walla winery visits, the tasting fee works like a deposit: the four wineries compared here charge 20 to 40 dollars per adult and give it back when you buy wine. Only Dunham Cellars sells a guided tour at a published price, 50 dollars with a tasting.

Lowden and the town

  • Lowden, west of the city: L’Ecole Nº 41 pours in its Schoolhouse Tasting Room. Woodward Canyon stands on the old Highway 12.
  • Walla Walla itself: Dunham Cellars, on E. Boeing Ave., and Gramercy Cellars.

“Classic, welcoming, and a perfect introduction to L’Ecole”, says L’Ecole Nº 41 of its schoolhouse tasting.

A schoolhouse of 1915 and a winery of 1981

  • L’Ecole Nº 41: founded in 1983 by Jean and Baker Ferguson as a retirement project, the third winery of the Walla Walla Valley. The name, French for “the school” in district 41, honours the French-Canadian settlers who pioneered vines in the valley in the 1800s.
  • The schoolhouse: it began as a log-cabin school built in 1870 along the Walla Walla River, and was rebuilt in 1915 and renamed Lowden School.
  • Woodward Canyon: making wine in the valley since 1981.

Woodward Canyon gives its own driving times: 15 minutes west on Highway 12 from Walla Walla Regional Airport, 40 minutes east on I-182 and Highway 12 from Tri-Cities Airport.
