Map of Beaujeu

Beaujeu is a small village in the Beaujolais hills, in the Rhône department, and the place that gave the wine region its name. Every year in the third week of November, it hosts Les Sarmentelles, a five-day festival for the new Beaujolais vintage. In 2026 it runs from 18 to 22 November, in the village centre, on the Promenade des Sarmentelles and the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville.

Practical notes

  • The festival’s wine fair, the Salon des Vins, is open from Friday at 5 pm to Sunday at 6 pm. Entry is free. The tasting glass costs 5 euros.
  • Beaujeu has no main-line railway station. The A6 motorway and the stations of the Saône valley lie to the east.
  • Rooms in the village are few. Villefranche-sur-Saône and Lyon have more choice, but then someone has to drive back after the tastings.
