Map of Paso Robles
Paso Robles is a town on California’s Central Coast, on US Highway 101 about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Its wine country spreads around the town: Eberle Winery sits on Highway 46 East, while Tablas Creek, Adelaida and Opolo are in the hills to the west, on Adelaida Road and Vineyard Drive.
Entry tastings in Paso Robles cost less than in Napa: at the four wineries in this guide, they charge nothing to 30 dollars per adult, and Eberle’s seated tasting, with a guided tour of its underground caves, is free. At Tablas Creek and Adelaida, the 25 dollar tasting fee is waived when you buy two bottles.
Practical notes
- The wineries are spread across the hills on both sides of town: a car is the practical way to visit, with a driver who skips the tastings.
- The legal drinking age in the United States is 21. Opolo’s tastings are for guests of 21 and over.
- Paso Robles has a railway station on the coastal line between Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area.
