California is the leading farm state in the United States by sales, and it grows nearly all of the country’s garlic. Gilroy, in the south of Santa Clara County, is its processing centre and has built its best-known festival around it: the Gilroy Garlic Festival, set for 23 to 25 July 2027.

On the Monterey Peninsula, Pebble Beach Food & Wine gathers chefs and winemakers at Pebble Beach Resorts each April: 1 to 4 April 2027, ticketed events only (packages from $1,750 in 2026).

Getting there

Gilroy lies on US Highway 101, south of San Jose. San Jose and San Francisco have the nearest international airports.
