Food tours in Lisbon

Guided food tours in Lisbon’s old districts with four operators, from Mouraria and Alfama to Chiado: 69 to 99 euros per adult, 2 to 4 hours.

Lisbon is built on hills, and its food tours climb them: Mouraria and Alfama below the castle, the Baixa in the valley, Chiado and Bairro Alto on the western hill. Four operators are compared here. Three publish an adult price on their tour pages, 69 to 99 euros. The fourth shows no price on its tour page. Tours last 2 to 4 hours, and all four say they work in English.

  • Eating Europe has the lowest adult price and the shortest tour: 69 euros for two hours, Monday to Saturday, with from 62 euros for ages 13 to 17 and from 55 euros for ages 4 to 12. Its guides are English-fluent Lisbon locals.
  • Secret Food Tours starts at the Casa dos Bicos and makes 5 to 7 stops in Mouraria, for 12 people at most, in English. Its Sunday tour in Belém costs 79.99 euros.
  • Taste of Lisboa charges 99 euros from age 11 and 79 euros for ages 6 to 10, in English. Its Lisbon Market walk also starts at 99 euros.
  • Treasures of Lisboa runs an Alfama Food Tour of four hours and 18 tastings on a 2.5 km slow-paced walk, hosted in English, with translation into French or Spanish on request. Children aged 4 to 12 have a special rate. Its tour page shows no price. Its home page shows 93 euros for the tour, without saying it is the adult rate, while children aged 4 to 12 have a special rate. That figure is left out of the price range on this page: check the price when you book.

How to choose

  • Short on time. Eating Europe’s tour lasts two hours, against 3 to 4 hours for the others.
  • Old Lisbon. Secret Food Tours in Mouraria and Treasures of Lisboa in Alfama stay in the medieval districts, with their stairs and narrow lanes.
  • Children. Taste of Lisboa counts children from 6 to 10 at 79 euros. Eating Europe takes ages 4 and up with two reduced rates.
  • Other languages. Treasures of Lisboa is the one that offers French or Spanish, on request.

What to taste in Lisbon

  • Pastel de nata, the custard tart in flaky pastry, often dusted with cinnamon.
  • Bacalhau, dried salt cod, cooked in hundreds of ways. Pastéis de bacalhau are fried cod cakes.
  • Bifana, a sandwich of thin pork slices marinated in garlic and wine.
  • Ginjinha, a sour cherry liqueur, poured by the glass in tiny bars around Largo de São Domingos, where Taste of Lisboa meets.
  • Grilled sardines, the dish of Lisbon’s summer street festivals.

Combine with Porto

Porto, to the north, is the home of port wine: this guide compares the cellar visits with tasting in Vila Nova de Gaia, across the Douro from the city.

Practical tips for food tours in Lisbon

  • Getting there. The airport is on the red metro line. Rossio and Baixa-Chiado are the nearest metro stations for the meeting points in the Baixa, Chiado and Bairro Alto. The Alfama meeting point is reached on foot or by tram. Tram 28 climbs through Graça and Alfama.
  • Shoes. Lisbon’s streets are steep and paved with slippery limestone cobbles: wear shoes with grip.
  • Prices change. The figures here were read on the operators’ own sites on 4 October 2026.
