Hawker centre food tours in Singapore

Guided hawker centre food tours in Singapore’s Chinatown with three operators: 99 to 134.99 Singapore dollars per person, 2.5 to 3.5 hours.

Singapore eats at the hawker centre: a hall of small cooked-food stalls, each with one or two dishes, and shared tables in the middle. Hawker culture has been on UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage since 2020. Hawker centre food tours in Singapore take you through one or two of these centres and the streets around them, with a guide who chooses the stalls. Three operators are compared here, all in Chinatown, for 99 to 134.99 Singapore dollars per person and 2.5 to 3.5 hours.

How to choose

  • Price. Let’s Go is the lowest at 99 Singapore dollars, when booked on its own site. Secret Food Tours the highest at 134.99.

What to taste at a hawker centre

  • Hainanese chicken rice, poached chicken on rice cooked in chicken stock, with chilli and ginger sauces.
  • Laksa, rice noodles in a spicy coconut curry broth.
  • Char kway teow, flat rice noodles stir-fried in a very hot wok with dark soy sauce, egg and cockles.
  • Satay with peanut sauce, and kaya toast with soft-boiled eggs at breakfast.

Some hawker stalls are listed in the Michelin Guide, most of them with a Bib Gourmand, which is where two of the tours take their names.
