Weekend · 11 days · Dates announced

The Mainzer Weinmarkt is the wine festival of Mainz, held in the Stadtpark, the city park above the Rhine. Its site presents it as one of the most beautiful wine festivals in Germany. Winemakers from Rheinhessen, the wine region around Mainz, and from other regions pour their wines, with food stands and live music around them. The site is published by mainzplus Citymarketing, a Mainz company.

Mainzer Weinmarkt 2027

The festival is split into two blocks, each from Thursday to Sunday. The organiser says it always takes place over the last weekend of August and the first weekend of September.

The programme page said, when checked on 29 September 2026, that more information would follow shortly before the event. The 2026 edition marked a jubilee: 90 years of the Alt-Mainzer Stadtsoldaten, one of the city’s carnival guards, at the Weinmarkt.

What to drink and eat

  • Rheinhessen wines. The region around Mainz grows Riesling, Silvaner and Müller-Thurgau among many other grapes. The festival is a chance to compare several winemakers in one evening.
  • Wines from other regions. The organiser also invites winemakers from other German wine regions.
  • Mainz classics. The local saying Weck, Worscht un Woi sums up the city’s favourite snack: a bread roll, a sausage and a glass of wine. Spundekäs, a cream cheese spread served with pretzels, is the other Rheinhessen classic.

When to come

Each block runs from Thursday to Sunday, so a long weekend in Mainz can cover a whole block, and a longer stay both.

Getting there

Mainz Hauptbahnhof is a train ride from Frankfurt Airport, and the Stadtpark is reached on foot or by local bus from the centre.

Where to stay and budget

The old town and the area around the main station are practical bases. Wiesbaden, across the Rhine, and Frankfurt are other options with frequent trains. No entry price is published in the sources checked. The budget is what you drink and eat, plus accommodation.

Around the festival

Mainz is a wine town the rest of the year too. The old town around St. Martin’s Cathedral has wine taverns, the Weinstuben, that pour Rheinhessen wines by the glass, and the Gutenberg Museum tells the story of the printing press invented here. Across the Rhine, the Rheingau is the other wine country within easy reach, with Riesling villages such as Eltville and Rüdesheim along the river.

Combine with

In 2027 the Dürkheimer Wurstmarkt, in the Palatinate wine country south of Mainz, opens on 10 September, five days after the Weinmarkt closes. Earlier in the summer, the Kulmbacher Bierwoche runs from 31 July to 8 August 2027 in Upper Franconia.
