Oktoberfest Zinzinnati is Cincinnati’s Oktoberfest, held on the riverfront parks of Sawyer Point and Yeatman’s Cove, along the Ohio River. First held in 1976, it welcomed a record 808,300 attendees in 2025, and its organisers call it America’s largest Oktoberfest. Entry is free. The 2026 festival ran from Thursday 17 to Sunday 20 September. For 2027, the organisers were taking vendor applications but had not published the dates on 14 October 2026.
Cincinnati’s German roots, on a plate
The festival sets out to celebrate “Cincinnati’s German roots through food, beer, music, dance, and Gemütlichkeit”. It is run by the Cincinnati Regional Chamber, which organised the first edition with the German-American Citizens League.
- Sausages: brats and metts, from several stands.
- German classics: Bavarian pretzels, Gebratene Lende (roast loin), chicken schnitzel, German roasted almonds.
- Cincinnati twists: sauerkraut balls, Roastbeef on Weck and the cheese coney, a local hot dog under chili and cheese.
The vendors’ page sums up the menu as “from bratwurst to pretzels”, with booth numbers for each stand.
Oktoberfest Zinzinnati beer by the river
The centrepiece is a 300-foot festival tent, seating more than 1,000 guests.
In 2026 the headline beer was Samuel Adams’ 50th Anniversary Lager, a festival exclusive.
- The lager: 5.3 percent ABV, sold that year only at the festival and at the Samuel Adams Cincinnati Taproom.
- Warsteiner: one of the German brewers in the 2026 beer guide, with its Oktoberfest Märzen at 5.9 percent.
Fifty years since the Bicentennial
The festival began as a local answer to America’s Bicentennial. In 1975 the German-American Citizens League, the umbrella association of Cincinnati’s German societies, proposed a citywide Oktoberfest for the 1976 celebrations, and it organised the first edition with the Cincinnati Regional Chamber.
- 1976: the first Oktoberfest Zinzinnati.
- 2025: a record 808,300 attendees.
- 2026: the 50th anniversary, with the festival’s first dedicated VIP experience and a two-storey Glockenspiel, a 31-foot clock tower (about 9.5 metres).
The beer capital before the festival
- Breweries: by the late 1800s, dozens operated in the region, which earned Cincinnati the nickname “The Beer Capital of the World”, according to the organisers.
- Lagering tunnels: brewers stored and matured their beer in tunnels under Over-the-Rhine before modern refrigeration.
- The Running of the Wieners, on the festival programme, is a race for “the fastest pups”, in the organisers’ words.
