Map of Tanunda
Tanunda is one of the main towns of the Barossa Valley, 50 to 60 minutes by car north-east of Adelaide, and a convenient base for the cellar doors. Peter Lehmann Wines is on Para Road in Tanunda. Barossa Valley Estate is at Marananga. Jacob’s Creek has its visitor centre in the valley too.
Tastings there cost 10 to 15 Australian dollars per adult: 10 dollars for Peter Lehmann’s red and white flight (45 minutes), 15 dollars at Barossa Valley Estate and Jacob’s Creek (30 minutes each). Tanunda, in the middle of the valley, is close to most cellar doors, which makes it an easy base for a night or two.
Practical notes
- Jacob’s Creek requires a booking and admits guests of 18 and over. Barossa Valley Estate needs no booking.
- The Barossa is known above all for Shiraz.
- A car is the practical way around the valley, with a driver who skips the tastings.
