Map of Leinster

Leinster is the eastern province of Ireland, along the Irish Sea, with Dublin as its largest city. Its experiences in this guide are in the capital: the Guinness Storehouse, and guided tours with tastings at the Teeling Whiskey Distillery and the Irish Whiskey Museum, from 22 euros per person.

Dublin’s whiskey revival in Leinster

The Teeling Whiskey Distillery, in the Liberties district, opened in 2015 as the first new distillery in Dublin for more than 125 years, just down the road from where the original Teeling family distillery once stood. It is open seven days a week and lends visitors a language app in seven languages.

  • The Irish Whiskey Museum opened in 2014 and is independent of every brand: it works with more than 30 whiskey brands from Ireland and Northern Ireland, and each of its four rooms covers a period of Irish history. The guided tour ends with a tasting of three or four whiskeys.

The Guinness Storehouse, bottom to top

The Storehouse tells the story of Arthur Guinness, who signed a 9,000-year lease on the St. James’s Gate site in 1759. The visit is self-guided, with a floor of historic advertising, from the toucans to the television commercials. At the top, the Gravity Bar, glass and steel, serves a pint of Guinness, Guinness 0.0 or a soft drink with a 360-degree view over Dublin.

The Guinness Academy add-on teaches the six-step ritual of pouring a pint, surge and settle included: book it with the ticket.

  • A separate Guinness Brewery Experience takes small groups through the working brewery at St. James’s Gate.
