Map of Logroño

Logroño is the capital of La Rioja, on the south bank of the Ebro. It is a wine town at the heart of the Rioja appellation, and a stop on the French Way of the Camino de Santiago, whose pilgrims cross the river by the Puente de Piedra. In the old town, the Calle Laurel and the streets around it are lined with bars serving pinchos, small bites eaten standing at the counter, with a glass of Rioja.

The city’s big festival is San Mateo, which is also the Fiesta de la Vendimia Riojana, the Rioja grape harvest festival. In 2026 the festivities ran from 19 to 25 September, according to the city council, with the treading of the grapes and the offering of the first must on the Paseo del Espolón. The 2027 dates had not been published on 6 October 2026.

Practical notes

  • The old town and the Espolón are a short walk from each other, and from the railway station.
  • Haro, the other wine town of La Rioja, with its bodegas, is a drive or a train ride away.
  • Logroño has a small airport with domestic flights. Bilbao has the nearest large one.
