Map of Ludlow
Ludlow is a market town in south Shropshire, in the West Midlands of England, about ten miles from the Welsh border. It stands on a hill above the River Teme, crowned by the ruins of a medieval castle, and its centre keeps a street plan of timber-framed and Georgian houses. The area is part of the Marches, the old border country between England and Wales, known for farming, orchards and cider.
The castle is the venue of the Ludlow Food Festival, which brings independent food and drink producers from the Marches to the castle grounds. In 2026 it ran from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 September. The 2027 dates had not been published on 6 October 2026.
Practical notes
- Ludlow station is on the Welsh Marches line between Shrewsbury and Hereford, a short walk from the centre and the castle.
- Abergavenny, whose food festival also falls in September, is further south on the same line.
- Birmingham is the nearest large airport.
