This guide covers five food festivals in the United Kingdom, and one of them travels. The Foodies Festival sets up in nine places in England and Scotland between 1 May and 30 August 2027, one stage at a time: Brighton, Bath, Syon Park in London, St Albans, Tatton Park in Cheshire, Winchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Oxford. Each stage lasts three days.

Two others stay put, near the border between England and Wales, and both fall in September. The Ludlow Food Festival fills the grounds of Ludlow Castle, in Shropshire. In 2026 it ran from 11 to 13 September. The Abergavenny Food Festival takes over the Welsh market town of Abergavenny, in Monmouthshire. In 2026 it was held on 19 and 20 September. Their 2027 dates had not been published on 6 October 2026.

The fourth is London Cocktail Week, a city-wide cocktail festival in the capital’s bars: it skips 2026 and moves to March 2027, exact dates not yet published.

The fifth is the Isle of Wight Garlic Festival, held near Newchurch on the third weekend in August: 21 and 22 August 2027.

Two experiences complete the festivals: guided food tours in London, from 66 to 89 pounds per adult, and whisky tastings in Edinburgh, from 25 to 45 pounds (October 2026).

Getting around the United Kingdom

London is the hub of the rail network, with direct trains to Brighton, Bath, St Albans, Winchester and Oxford. Edinburgh and Glasgow are linked to London by the main lines up the east and west coasts, and to each other by frequent trains. Ludlow and Abergavenny are on the same railway, the Welsh Marches line between Shrewsbury and Newport. Three of the 2027 stages run from Saturday to Monday, over bank holiday weekends in England: Brighton (3 May), Syon Park (31 May) and Oxford (30 August).

What to eat and drink

British food is regional. England has its cheeses, Cheddar from Somerset, Stilton from the East Midlands and Cheshire among them, and a long tradition of ale and cider. Scotland has its own larder: salmon, langoustines and other shellfish from its sea lochs, beef and lamb from the hills, and single malt whisky, made by distilleries spread from the Lowlands to Islay. On the coast, fish and chips remains the everyday classic.

Where to stay

Each stage of the tour is its own short trip: a night or two in the host city or a nearby town is enough, and London works as a base for the southern stages with direct trains. Ludlow and Abergavenny are small towns. In 2026 their festivals fell on consecutive weekends, which made one trip along the border possible.
