Map of St Albans
St Albans, in Hertfordshire, is a cathedral city just north of London, built beside the Roman town of Verulamium. In 2027 the Foodies Festival stops here from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 June.
Practical notes
- Thameslink trains from London St Pancras reach St Albans City station in 18 to 27 minutes, so a day trip from London is easy.
- Luton Airport lies to the north.
On the tour
St Albans is the fourth stop and the last before a five-week pause: the tour resumes at Tatton Park, in Cheshire, on 9 July. Syon Park, in west London, hosts the stage just before it.
What to see and eat in St Albans
The cathedral, on the hill above the town, and the remains of Roman Verulamium in the park below it frame the centre. The Verulamium Museum displays mosaics found on the site. The old streets between them have pubs and restaurants. Hertfordshire, the county around the city, is farming country on London’s doorstep.
Where to stay
St Albans has hotels and inns in and around the centre. London, 18 to 27 minutes away by Thameslink, is the other base, with more choice.
