Street Food Thursday at Markthalle Neun
Berlin’s street food evening at Markthalle Neun in Kreuzberg, every Thursday from 5 pm to 10 pm, with free entry: chefs without their own restaurant.
Street Food Thursday is the weekly evening market of Markthalle Neun, a 19th-century market hall in Kreuzberg, Berlin. Every Thursday from 5 pm to 10 pm, in the organiser’s words, “Markthalle Neun becomes a platform for chefs without their own restaurant”. The hall presents it as Germany’s first street food market, held every Thursday since 2013. It was started by Kavita Meelu, Anna Lai and Tobias Bürger, of Big Stuff Smoked BBQ. Admission is free, and you pay for each dish at the stall.

What to eat
- Dishes from around the world. Berlin’s official site promises snacks and tapas from around the world, and visitBerlin describes additional street food stalls with international dishes inside the hall.
- Berlin’s own street food, elsewhere in town. Currywurst, the sliced sausage with curry ketchup that the city claims as its own, and döner kebab are the classics to try elsewhere in town.
Practical tips
- Thursday evening only. The street food stalls come on Thursdays. On other days the hall is a regular market.
Around the hall
Kreuzberg is one of Berlin’s food districts. Oranienstraße and the streets around Görlitzer Park are lined with restaurants and bars from many countries. The East Side Gallery, a stretch of the Berlin Wall painted by artists, is a few kilometres away along the Spree.
Getting to Street Food Thursday
Görlitzer Bahnhof, on the U1 underground line, is the nearest station. The hall is a few minutes’ walk away, in the streets of Kreuzberg. Berlin Brandenburg Airport is south-east of the city, linked to the centre by S-Bahn and regional trains.
Where to stay and budget
Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain, across the Spree, put you within walking distance or a ride of the hall. Mitte, the central district, is a U-Bahn ride away. A Thursday evening there costs what you choose to eat and drink.

Bavaria lies south: the Kulmbacher Bierwoche runs from 31 July to 8 August 2027, Munich’s Oktoberfest from 18 September to 3 October 2027, and the guide lists a food tour of Munich’s Viktualienmarkt.
