Wellfleet OysterFest

The Wellfleet OysterFest is a two-day festival in downtown Wellfleet, a small town on outer Cape Cod, in Massachusetts. It is run by the Wellfleet Oyster Alliance, and it has one subject: the oysters and other shellfish raised in the town’s waters, served by the people who harvest them. The festival started in 2001. The organisers describe it as a party of art, seafood and community.

The 2026 OysterFest, billed as the 26th annual, took place on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October 2026, with gates open from 10 am to 5 pm each day, in downtown Wellfleet, along Main Street, the Town Hall lot and the Preservation Hall lot. The 2027 dates had not been published when this page was checked, on 21 October 2026: watch the Wellfleet Oyster Alliance’s site before you plan the trip.

In 2026 the festival’s FAQ said children 12 and under were free, and had its own entry on tickets for children: read it before you book. Tickets were sold online on the Oyster Alliance’s site.

What to eat

• Wellfleet oysters. The town gives its name to its oysters. Start with the oysters themselves: the festival serves them straight from the growers.
• Other local shellfish. The organisers promise oysters and other shellfish raised in Wellfleet: clams are the other classic of Cape Cod waters.
• Pace yourself. The stands are spread along Main Street and two lots, so walk the whole festival once before you settle.

Practical tips

• Opening hours. In 2026, gates opened at 10 am and closed at 5 pm each day.
• Dress for the Cape in October. The festival is outdoors, close to the sea: bring a warm layer and something for wind or rain.
• Getting there. Wellfleet is on U.S. Route 6, the main road along the Cape. Parking in a small town fills up on a festival weekend, so arrive early or share a car.

In 2026, the New York City Wine & Food Festival ran from 15 to 18 October and ended on the OysterFest weekend, so a single trip could start in New York and end on Cape Cod. New York has announced its 2027 edition for 14 to 17 October 2027. The OysterFest had not published its 2027 dates on 21 October 2026.
