Food festivals in Stuttgart, month by month
Stuttgart is the capital of Baden-Württemberg, set in a valley off the Neckar. It is one of the few large German cities with vineyards inside its limits: vines climb the slopes around the centre and along the river. Local wine is poured in the city’s wine taverns, alongside Swabian dishes such as Maultaschen and Spätzle. The Markthalle, an Art Nouveau market hall near the Schillerplatz, sells regional produce and specialities from further afield.
In late summer, the Stuttgarter Weindorf fills the old centre around the town hall: the Marktplatz, the Schillerplatz and the Kirchstraße that joins them. In 2026 the 50th edition ran from 20 August to 5 September. The 2027 dates had not been published on 6 October 2026.
A few weeks later, the city’s folk festival, the Cannstatter Volksfest, opens on the Cannstatter Wasen in Bad Cannstatt, with eight large beer tents and Swabian dishes such as Göckele, grilled chicken: from 24 September to 10 October 2027, free to enter.
Practical notes
- The Marktplatz and the Schillerplatz are a short walk from the main station, along the Königstraße shopping street.
- The S-Bahn links the airport with the main station and the Stadtmitte stop, near the festival.
