Stuttgarter Weindorf
Stuttgart’s wine festival on the Marktplatz and Schillerplatz, with Württemberg wine and Swabian food: 20 August to 5 September in 2026. 2027 dates not yet published.
The Stuttgarter Weindorf, Stuttgart’s “wine village”, is a late-summer wine festival in the old centre of the city. Hosts set up in the squares around the town hall and serve wine with regional specialities, “delicacies from kitchen and cellar”, in the organiser’s words. It is run by Pro Stuttgart e.V., an association, and its home page calls it one of the most beautiful wine festivals in the south of Germany.

What to eat and drink
- Württemberg wine. The region around Stuttgart is known for its reds, Trollinger and Lemberger among them, and for Riesling. A wine festival in the city is a chance to taste them side by side.
- Swabian food. The organiser promises regional specialities. The classics of the region are Maultaschen, pasta parcels filled with meat and spinach. Käsespätzle, soft egg noodles baked with cheese and topped with fried onions. And Zwiebelrostbraten, roast beef with onions.
- Wine from the city itself. Stuttgart grows grapes inside its own limits, on the slopes around the centre: ask for a wine from the city’s vineyards.
Practical tips
- Hours. In 2026 the festival opened at noon each day and closed at 11 pm, or at midnight from Thursday to Saturday.
- Pace yourself. German wine is often poured by the quarter-litre glass rather than the tasting measure. Share a bottle or ask for smaller pours where offered, and drink water.
- Come by public transport. The Marktplatz is a short walk from the main station, and the S-Bahn stops at Stadtmitte, close to the festival.
Where to stay and combine
Hotels around the main station and the Königstraße are a walk from the festival. Stuttgart is on the fast trains to Munich, Frankfurt and Mannheim. Later in the season, the Palatinate wine country, to the north-west, holds the Dürkheimer Wurstmarkt in September, and Munich its Oktoberfest from the second half of September.
Planning for the next edition
In 2026 the Weindorf opened in the second half of August and closed in the first days of September, for its 50th edition. With more than two weeks of opening, there is room to choose your nights: from Thursday to Saturday it stayed open until midnight in 2026, which suits a weekend stay. Stuttgart is also a base for the Württemberg vineyards along the Neckar valley, reached by regional trains, for a wine trip that goes beyond the festival.
