Map of Oxford

Oxford, on the Thames north-west of London, is a university city of college quadrangles and libraries. In 2027 it closes the Foodies Festival tour, from Saturday 28 to Monday 30 August, the summer bank holiday weekend in England.

Practical notes

  • Trains from London Paddington and London Marylebone take about an hour.
  • Oxford station is west of the centre, a short walk from the colleges.

On the tour

Oxford is the ninth and last stop, two weeks after Glasgow. The tour started almost four months earlier, in Brighton.

What to see and eat in Oxford

The colleges, the Bodleian Library and the Radcliffe Camera make up the centre of the university city. The Covered Market, open since the 18th century, has butchers, bakers and cafés under one roof. The Ashmolean Museum is free to enter, and the Botanic Garden lies by the Cherwell. Pubs along the Thames and the Cherwell are a classic stop between two festival visits.

Where to stay

The centre has hotels and guesthouses near the colleges. London, about an hour away by train, is the alternative base.
