Map of Campania

Campania is a region of southern Italy on the Tyrrhenian Sea, with Naples as its capital. It takes in the Bay of Naples, Mount Vesuvius, the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum, the Amalfi Coast and the islands of Capri and Ischia. Its food is built on what grows and swims there: tomatoes, lemons, buffalo mozzarella and seafood, and Naples is where pizza comes from.

The experiences in this guide are in Naples, where three operators run street food tours in the historic centre for 65.95 to 79.99 euros per adult, in about three hours: Do Eat Better Experience, Eating Europe and Secret Food Tours.

In summer, Pizza Village, a festival devoted to Neapolitan pizza, sets up in the Naples area: in 2026, from 7 to 12 July, on the seafront of Pozzuoli.

Getting around

Naples is the region’s hub: high-speed trains from Rome reach Napoli Centrale, and the Circumvesuviana railway runs from the city to Pompeii and Sorrento. Ferries and hydrofoils leave the port for Capri, Ischia and Procida. For a food trip, Naples itself is the base: its historic centre holds the pizzerias and street food stalls.
