Food festivals in Italy, month by month
Italy’s food calendar is built around harvests. Autumn is the richest season: the white truffle of Alba, in Piedmont, is harvested from 1 October to 31 January, and the town’s international fair fills the weekends from mid-October to early December, with a market where truffle hunters sell directly to visitors under the eye of a quality commission. Summer belongs to the village sagre, small local feasts devoted to one product.
On the Ligurian coast, Camogli fries fish in a giant pan for its Sagra del Pesce each May (8 to 10 May in 2026).
Planning tips
- Autumn weekends in the Langhe hills around Alba book up early, especially Saturdays during the truffle fair.
- Florence’s Central Market closes on Sundays and public holidays, which matters if you plan a food stop there.
- Rail is the easiest way between the big cities. Alba is reached by regional train from Turin.
