Map of Bra
Bra, a town in the province of Cuneo, in southern Piedmont, is where the Slow Food movement began, and the organisation still has its headquarters there. Every two years, in September according to the town’s tourist office, Bra hosts Cheese, an event devoted to cheese and run by Slow Food and the City of Bra. The 2027 edition is set for 17 to 20 September 2027, with venues spread across the town.
Practical notes
- Regional trains link Bra with Turin. Alba, the truffle town of the Langhe, lies to the east.
- The town gives its name to a cow’s milk cheese, Bra DOP, and to a veal sausage, salsiccia di Bra.
What to eat and drink in Bra
Bra stands where the Roero hills meet the plain. Piedmont has several protected cheeses besides Bra DOP, among them Castelmagno, Raschera, Toma Piemontese and Robiola di Roccaverano. The local osterie serve the classic dishes of the region: vitello tonnato, tajarin, thin egg pasta, and agnolotti del plin.
Where to stay
Bra has hotels and guesthouses in its centre. Alba and the villages of the Langhe and Roero are the country alternative, and Turin, linked by regional trains, works for day trips.
