Food festivals in Louisiana, month by month
Louisiana, on the Gulf of Mexico, has two cooking traditions of its own: Creole cooking, born in New Orleans, and the Cajun cooking of the rural south-west. Gumbo, jambalaya, red beans and rice and boiled crawfish are the dishes most visitors come for.
New Orleans is the state’s largest city and the setting of the French Quarter Festival, a free music festival with food booths across the old quarter, set for 8 to 11 April 2027. West of the city, in Cajun country, the small town of Breaux Bridge holds its Crawfish Festival at Parc Hardy: from 30 April to 2 May in 2027. In June, New Orleans hosts the New Orleans Wine & Food Experience, a charity week of tastings and dinners (9 to 13 June 2027).
When to go
Spring is crawfish season in Louisiana, and it is also when the city’s outdoor festivals begin. Summers are long, hot and humid.
