The Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival is a three-day celebration of Cajun culture and of the crawfish, held at Parc Hardy in Breaux Bridge, a small town on Bayou Teche in south Louisiana. Its site calls Breaux Bridge the “Crawfish Capital of the World” and says the festival is held the first full weekend in May, since 1960. It is run by the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival Association, a volunteer organisation with a board of directors.

Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival tickets

The festival charges a day ticket. In 2026 the events page listed 10 dollars for Friday, 15 dollars for Saturday, 5 dollars for Sunday, and an advance three-day pass for 25 dollars, available from the Wednesday of festival week. Prices for 2027 had not been published when this page was checked. The 2026 figures give an idea of the scale.

What to eat

  • Crawfish, every way. In the festival’s own words, “Nothing is as unique to Cajuns as eating crawfish during the festival weekend”. Boiled crawfish, served by the pound with corn and potatoes, is the classic. Crawfish étouffée, a stew served over rice, and crawfish bisque are the cooked dishes to try.
  • Boudin. The Cajun sausage of pork and rice is sold across Acadiana, the Cajun country around Lafayette.

When to come

Crawfish season in Louisiana runs from late winter into early summer, so the festival falls inside it.

Music and culture

The festival bills itself as a celebration of Cajun culture. Cajun music, with accordion and fiddle, and zydeco, its Creole cousin, are the sounds of Acadiana.

Getting there

Lafayette Regional Airport is the nearest airport, to the west. New Orleans lies east along Interstate 10, which passes Breaux Bridge.

Where to stay and budget

Breaux Bridge is a small town. Lafayette has many more hotels. In 2026 a weekend for one, Friday to Sunday, cost 25 dollars with the advance pass, or 30 dollars with three day tickets. Food, drinks and accommodation come on top.

Combine with

New Orleans holds the French Quarter Festival from 8 to 11 April 2027, three weeks earlier, and the guide compares food tours in the city. A Louisiana trip can pair the two: New Orleans first, then the drive west into Cajun country.
