Tasting or guided tour
In Napa the two formats overlap in price, so the choice is about time and curiosity more than budget.
| Format | What you get | Length | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tasting | a flight of wines poured at a table, a bar or in a garden, with someone to talk you through them | about an hour | Domaine Carneros: four wines, by appointment |
| Guided tour | the vineyard, the cellar or the caves, with wines along the way | 30 to 90 minutes | Beringer’s Legacy Cave Tour: two wines in 30 minutes |
Sterling’s Tour & Terrace Experience is the longest on this page, at 90 minutes, and ends with a tasting on the terrace.
Napa Valley winery visits: which winery for which visitor
- First visit, with family: Sterling Vineyards stands on a hilltop in Calistoga, reached by an aerial gondola included in every experience. Its Sterling Stroll welcomes all ages: 55 dollars for adults, 25 dollars for ages 3 to 20.
- Under 21 in the group: at Beringer, only the outdoor experience in the gardens is open to under-21s.
- History: Beringer, on Main Street in St. Helena, builds its cave tour around its legacy. Robert Mondavi, in Oakville, presents the estate’s storied history.
- Sparkling wine: Domaine Carneros is the sparkling wine house on this list.
At Domaine Carneros, the price excludes food, gratuity and sales tax: expect to pay a little more than the figure shown.
A day along Highway 29
Highway 29 runs up the valley floor from Napa through Oakville and St. Helena to Calistoga, and the Silverado Trail follows the eastern side. Carneros to Calistoga is the full length of the valley, so group two or three wineries by area rather than criss-crossing it.
| Day plan | Offers | Total per adult |
