Port wine cellar tastings in Porto
Port cellar visits with a tasting of three ports in Vila Nova de Gaia, across the river from Porto: 23 to 25 euros per adult, 50 to 90 minutes.
Port is a fortified wine made from grapes grown in the Douro Valley. The wine is aged in the cellars, or lodges, of the port houses in Vila Nova de Gaia, on the south bank of the Douro, facing Porto’s Ribeira district. Port wine cellar tastings, a visit to one of these cellars with a tasting at the end, are a classic of any trip to Porto. At the three houses that publish their prices, it costs 23 to 25 euros per adult and lasts 50 to 90 minutes.
How it works
A cellar visit walks you through the barrel halls where the wine ages, explains how port is made and how its styles differ, and ends in a tasting room with three ports.
| House | Visit | Price per adult | Duration | Ports poured |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sandeman | Porto Sandeman Visit | 23 euros | 50 minutes | white, ruby and tawny |
| Ferreira | Porto Ferreira Visit | 23 euros | 50 minutes | white, ruby and tawny |

- Sandeman, at Largo Miguel Bombarda 47, and Ferreira, at Avenida Ramos Pinto 70, are two separate cellars with two brands, both run by the Sogrape group, which sells their visits on one site at one price. Ferreira also offers a visit around the Casa Ferreirinha still wines of the Douro, at the same 23 euros.
- Taylor’s prices its adult ticket at 25 euros, with an audio guide and three ports: Chip Dry, a white port, a Late Bottled Vintage and a 10-Year-Old Tawny. The audio-guided tour lasts about an hour, followed by 30 minutes of tasting. Ages 8 to 17 pay 9 euros and under-8s go free. The prices appear in a PDF of answers to common questions on Taylor’s site, rather than on the booking page.
- Cálem combines an interactive museum, a guided tour and a premium tasting. Graham’s offers a guided tour of its lodge by one of its port experts with a selection of tastings. Neither shows a price on its pages: tickets are sold through a booking widget.
Languages
Taylor’s audio guide is available in 13 languages, among them English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Mandarin and Korean. Sandeman and Ferreira do not state their tour languages on their visit pages: check when you book.
Choosing a cellar
For the lowest price and a short visit, Sandeman or Ferreira. For an audio-guided visit in 13 languages, Taylor’s. For a museum-style approach, Cálem. The three ports poured by Taylor’s, a white, an LBV and an aged tawny, show three styles: white, LBV and aged tawny.
Getting there
The Gaia riverfront is a short walk from Porto’s Ribeira across the lower deck of the Dom Luís I bridge. Metro line D crosses the upper deck. The lodges climb the hillside behind the river, so expect some steep streets.
Practical tips for port wine cellar tastings in Porto
- Book a slot at busy times, especially for guided visits.
- Combine two houses: Sandeman and Ferreira take 50 minutes each, so two cellars fit in one afternoon.
- Go further: the grapes come from the Douro Valley, a train ride upriver, where the quintas run their own tours with tasting.
- Prices change: the figures here were read on the houses’ own sites on 4 and 5 October 2026.
