Truffes en Folie
The truffle festival of Sorges, in the Périgord: controlled truffle markets, cooking demonstrations and a truffle omelette contest. 2026 edition: 28 January to 1 February.
Truffes en Folie is the truffle festival of Sorges, a village in the Périgord, in the Dordogne. The 2026 edition was the 37th Fête de la Truffe, promoted as Truffes en Folie, and the festival is held in winter, during the season of the black truffle of the Périgord. The Dordogne tourist board calls Sorges “the truffle capital of the Périgord”. The village has a museum devoted to the truffle, the Écomusée de la Truffe, whose site publishes the festival’s programme.

The Écomusée gave the 2026 edition as running from Wednesday 28 January to Sunday 1 February. Two other pages describe only the weekend, from Friday 30 January to Sunday 1 February: the Dordogne tourist board, and the “dates gourmandes” page of the Écomusée itself. Friday to Sunday falls inside both versions. The 2027 dates had not been published when this page was checked, on 6 October 2026.
What to see and taste
The 2026 programme, as published by the Écomusée, had:
- Controlled truffle markets, where truffles are checked before sale (marchés contrôlés aux truffes).
- Cooking demonstrations.
- Contests, among them a truffle omelette, the Palmes d’Or and the biggest truffle.
- Introductions to truffle hunting (cavage), the search for truffles with a dog or, by tradition, a pig.
The 2026 theme paired the truffle with vanilla: “quand la truffe rencontre la vanille”.
Practical tips
- Buy at the controlled market. A truffle bought there has been checked. Ask the seller how to store it and for how long.
- Learn first. The Écomusée de la Truffe is a museum devoted to the truffle: a visit before the market helps you understand what you are buying.
- Dress for January. The Périgord in winter is cold and damp, and much of the festival is outdoors.
Where to stay and getting there
Périgueux, the main town of the Dordogne, has the widest choice of rooms. The farmhouses and guesthouses of the surrounding countryside are the other option. A car is the practical way to reach the village. Bordeaux has an international airport and high-speed trains from Paris.
When to plan the trip
The black truffle of the Périgord is a winter crop, harvested from late autumn to early spring, which is why the festival falls in the cold months: in 2026, at the turn of January and February. Outside the festival, truffle markets are held in several Périgord towns during the season, and the Écomusée de la Truffe is a museum you can visit in Sorges.
